A leafy retreat, just minutes from the buzz of city life
It is no surprise that with the name Queens Park, that one of the features of this lovely suburb is the abundance of parklands both inside and surrounding it.
It is neighboured by the Centennial Parklands, the shopping and transport hub of Bondi Junction and Waverley towards the popular eastern beaches. This family friendly area is comprised of mostly federation style homes on tree lined streets. Queens Park is home to many families, with sport events and local cafes bringing eager visitors to the area every weekend.
Access to schools is convenient with exclusive Moriah College, Waverly College and Waverly Primary School all close by. Locals enjoy an outdoor lifestyle, taking advantage of the two parks to exercise, picnic and make use of the dog friendly spots while the beautiful beaches of Bronte, Tamarama and Bondi are under 10 minutes’ drive.
Queens Park is a leafy delight, just moments from the hustle and bustle of every day life.
The suburb
The suburb surrounds the park with houses on three sides; however only houses on the park's northern and eastern sides form the suburb of Queens Park. The area previously formed part of the suburb of Bondi Junction but was proclaimed a suburb by the Geographical Names Board of New South Wales on 2 October 1992. Houses on the eastern side date from the Victorian era. Those on the northern and southern sides are mainly Federation.
History
Queens Park takes its name from the park of the same name on its southern border. Once part of Bondi Junction, the suburb's name was officially recognised in 1992 following a submission to Waverley Council by a local author Mark Roeder, and a subsequent referendum. Notwithstanding the name change, many of the longer term residents of the suburb still refer to the area as Bondi Junction.
The park
Queen's Park was originally part of the Sydney Common and later the Lachlan Swamps Water Reserve. Today it is a large urban park, part of the Centennial Parklands. It was dedicated with Centennial Park in 1888 as part of the centenary celebrations of European settlement in Australia. Numerous playing fields are located on the southern and western flatter sections of the park. It has been used for sports fields since 1938. Moriah College, which is located on the park's western boundary, also uses the park for their PDHPE lessons and other schools in Sydney also use the park. The Centennial Park and Moore Park Trust undertook major renovations of Queen's Park in 2009 to improve the quality of the playing fields which are used daily.[2] The Trust also completed a major renovation of the popular children's playground in 2009, and developed a shared cycleway to link the eastern suburbs cycle network with Centennial Park.

Over the past many years Bondi Beach has had a dramatic rise in the number of magnificently constructed, contemporary houses and apartments which take advantage of the excellent ocean views.
The valley running down to the beach is world famous for its vista of distinctive red tiled roofs, under which can be found an eclectic mix of semi-detached houses and apartments dating back to the early 1930’s, California Bungalows and large freestanding houses.
Bondi is the closest beach to Sydney’s CBD and while white settlement began with cattle run in the early part of the 19th century, the area began to develop around the middle of that century. The ocean baths were constructed in 1886 and the Bondi tram lines completed in 1894.
Shopping is mostly limited to parade of chic café’s, restaurants and pubs adjacent to the beach but if needed the latest additions of Harris Farm & Woolworths have provided locals easy access for their local grocery shopping popular with tourists, backpackers and Sydneysiders alike. Other shopping in the area caters to well to do locals with several fashion boutiques, while shops offer beachwear and there are plenty of souvenir shops.
Bondi beach is best known for having the most popular beach in Australia, and the crowds throughout summer, especially on weekends, can be enormous. It is always entertaining to watch hoards passing by: from sunburnt back packers and tourists to fitness fanatics and a range of colourful characters.
The area is well served with public transport to the CBD with 380 busses travelling regularly to Circular Quay or 365 to Edgecliff station. Trains also leave often from Bondi Junction which is nearby. There are several gyms in the area, but if you live in Bondi Beach you should focus your exercise regime on the beach. The surf rolls in fairly reliably.
